Vsol V2801SG XPON (G/Epon) Single Port ONU

The V-SOL V2801SG XPON (G/EPON) Single Port ONU is a compact dual-mode fibre network terminal designed for broadband connections that use either GPON or EPON technology. Its XPON capability allows the device to automatically access compatible EPON or GPON OLT networks, making it a flexible option for FTTH, FTTO, FTTD and SOHO deployments. It provides one Gigabit Ethernet port for connection to a Wi-Fi router, computer, firewall or other network equipment.

V-SOL V2801SG XPON ONU in Bangladesh

The V-SOL V2801SG is particularly useful for fibre internet users who want a single-port ONU with both GPON and EPON support. Instead of selecting a GPON-only or EPON-only device, an XPON ONU can provide greater flexibility when the access technology used by an ISP changes or when the same model needs to be deployed across different fibre networks.

For home users, the V2801SG can be connected to a separate Wi-Fi router through its Gigabit Ethernet port. In a small office, it can feed a business router, firewall or other gateway. This makes the device suitable for customers who prefer to keep the optical termination and wireless networking functions separate.

V-SOL V2801SG Technical Specifications

What Is an XPON ONU?

XPON refers to an optical network unit capable of operating across more than one passive optical network technology. In the case of the V2801SG, the device supports both GPON and EPON. The manufacturer describes it as a dual-mode ONU capable of automatically accessing EPON or GPON OLT equipment.

This dual-mode capability can be useful for network installers, ISPs and customers who need greater flexibility when working with different fibre access infrastructures. It also reduces the need to maintain separate ONU models for every GPON and EPON deployment.

GPON and EPON Support in One Device

The main advantage of the V2801SG is its ability to work with both GPON and EPON environments. GPON and EPON are different passive optical network standards, so a conventional GPON-only ONU cannot simply be assumed to work on an EPON network.

With a dual-mode XPON device, the optical terminal can automatically identify and access a compatible GPON or EPON OLT environment. However, automatic detection does not remove the need for ISP-side registration and configuration. The provider must still support the ONU and its authentication method.

Gigabit Ethernet Connectivity

The V2801SG includes one 10/100/1000Mbps auto-negotiating RJ45 Ethernet interface. This allows it to connect to Gigabit-capable routers, computers, switches and other network devices.

A Gigabit Ethernet interface is useful for modern fibre broadband because a 100Mbps LAN port can become a bottleneck when the subscribed internet package exceeds Fast Ethernet capacity. The actual internet speed will still depend on the ISP service, optical network, router, cabling and connected device.

GPON Performance

In GPON mode, the V2801SG supports a downstream line rate of up to 2.488Gbps and an upstream line rate of up to 1.244Gbps at the PON interface level. These figures describe the GPON technology capability and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed internet speed for an individual customer.

Your actual broadband performance depends on the package provided by the ISP and the configuration of the complete network. A Gigabit-capable ONU cannot increase a 100Mbps internet subscription to 1Gbps.

EPON Performance

In EPON mode, the device supports up to 1.25Gbps downstream and 1.25Gbps upstream at the EPON interface level. This makes it suitable for compatible EPON broadband deployments where Gigabit Ethernet connectivity is required at the customer side.

The ability to support both GPON and EPON makes the V2801SG more flexible than a single-standard ONU when the network technology is not known in advance or when an installer works with different access networks.

Automatic GPON and EPON Detection

The V2801SG is designed to automatically access compatible EPON or GPON OLT networks. This feature can simplify deployment because the installer does not necessarily need to maintain separate hardware for each optical access standard.

Nevertheless, customers should not confuse automatic optical mode detection with automatic internet activation. The ISP may still need to register the ONU's serial number, LOID or another authentication credential before service becomes available.

SC/UPC Optical Interface

The V2801SG uses an SC/UPC connector for its single-mode optical connection. The optical fibre should be handled carefully because excessive bending, contamination or physical damage can affect optical performance.

When replacing an existing ONU, customers should check the connector type and fibre installation before ordering. Using the correct optical patch cable helps maintain a reliable connection between the fibre termination point and the ONU.

20KM Transmission Distance

V-SOL specifies a transmission distance of up to 20km for the V2801SG under suitable optical network conditions. The practical distance of a GPON or EPON installation depends on the complete optical budget, splitter configuration, fibre quality, connector losses and other network conditions.

The 20km figure should therefore be considered an optical network capability rather than a promise that every installation will achieve that distance without additional planning.

Bridge Mode and Router Mode

The V2801SG supports both bridge mode and router mode. This provides flexibility for different network designs. In bridge mode, the ONU can pass the connection to another router or gateway that manages the customer's local network.

Router mode can be useful when the ONU itself is configured to perform selected Layer 3 networking functions. The appropriate mode depends on the ISP configuration and the customer's network requirements.

VLAN Support

VLAN functionality can be useful in managed fibre networks where traffic needs to be separated or identified according to service requirements. The V2801SG supports VLAN-related networking functions, making it suitable for more structured deployments than a basic optical-to-Ethernet converter.

However, VLAN settings should normally be configured according to the ISP's requirements. Entering incorrect VLAN information can prevent the internet connection from working correctly.

Layer 2 and Layer 3 Networking

The V2801SG supports both Layer 2 and Layer 3 functions. Depending on the operating configuration, the device can participate in Ethernet bridging or provide routing-related functions.

Features associated with routing include DHCP, PPPoE, NAT, static routing and IPv4/IPv6 support. The exact functions available to the user can depend on firmware, operating mode and ISP configuration.

Firewall and Network Security Features

The V2801SG includes firewall-related capabilities such as filtering and protection functions. Product documentation lists protection against DDoS-related traffic along with filtering based on ACL, MAC and URL in supported configurations.

These functions can provide an additional layer of control, although customers with more advanced networks may still prefer a dedicated firewall or business router for comprehensive security management.

Rogue ONU Detection

Rogue ONU detection is one of the security-oriented features associated with the V2801SG. It is designed to help identify abnormal ONU behaviour within supported optical network environments.

This type of functionality is particularly relevant in provider-managed fibre networks where the service operator needs greater control over optical access equipment and abnormal network behaviour.

Hardware Dying Gasp

The V2801SG supports Hardware Dying Gasp functionality. This feature can provide an indication of a power-loss event to the network side when supported by the surrounding infrastructure.

For network operators, such information can assist with diagnosing service interruptions and distinguishing certain power-related events from other connectivity problems.

V-SOL V2801SG for Home FTTH

For home broadband, the V2801SG can act as the fibre termination device before a separate Wi-Fi router. This is a practical arrangement for customers who want to use their own wireless router rather than an integrated ISP device.

A typical connection can be arranged as fibre cable to V2801SG, Ethernet cable to Wi-Fi router, followed by wireless and wired connections to household devices. The router can then manage Wi-Fi coverage, local addressing and connected devices.

V-SOL V2801SG for Small Offices

Small offices can use the V2801SG as part of a fibre access network when the service provider supports the device. Its Gigabit Ethernet port can connect to a business router, firewall or managed network gateway.

This configuration can support office computers, cloud applications, printers, video meetings, IP cameras and other network-dependent services. The appropriate broadband package should be selected according to the number of users and workload.

V-SOL V2801SG for SOHO Networks

SOHO users often need equipment that can work with different ISP infrastructures while maintaining Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. The dual-mode XPON design makes the V2801SG a useful option for such environments.

Its compact size also makes it easy to position close to the fibre entry point. The connected router can be placed where better Wi-Fi coverage is required, depending on the network layout and Ethernet cable length.

V-SOL V2801SG for Gaming

The V2801SG can be part of a suitable gaming network when paired with a reliable fibre service and capable router. Its Gigabit Ethernet port allows a gaming router or wired gaming device to connect without the 100Mbps limitation associated with older Fast Ethernet interfaces.

Gaming latency is not determined by the ONU alone. Ping and responsiveness are influenced by ISP routing, server location, congestion, local traffic and the quality of the router. For competitive gaming, a wired Ethernet connection from the router to the gaming PC or console can also be preferable to Wi-Fi.

V-SOL V2801SG for CCTV and Video Surveillance

The manufacturer lists video surveillance among the intended application areas of the V2801SG.  A suitable fibre connection can therefore form part of a remote CCTV network where bandwidth and network design are properly planned.

For surveillance installations, the required upload capacity is particularly important because cameras may continuously transmit video to a recorder or remote monitoring platform. The ISP package, router and complete network should therefore be selected according to the number and resolution of cameras.

Compact and Lightweight Design

The V2801SG measures approximately 82 × 82 × 25mm and weighs around 85g. This compact construction makes it convenient for desktop placement and small network cabinets or fibre termination areas where space is limited.

Its small footprint can also simplify installation when the optical fibre enters a home or office in a restricted area. Proper ventilation and safe cable management should still be maintained around the device.

Power Consumption

The manufacturer specifies a DC 12V/0.5A external AC-to-DC adapter and power consumption of up to approximately 4W for the V2801SG.

Using the correct adapter is important for stable operation. Customers should not substitute a power supply merely because its connector appears physically compatible. Voltage, polarity and current requirements should match the equipment specification.

Wide Working Temperature Design

V-SOL specifies a working temperature range of approximately -10°C to +55°C for the V2801SG. The manufacturer positions the model for reliable operation across a relatively broad environmental range.

For normal indoor home or office installations in Bangladesh, the more important considerations are ventilation, humidity control, dust protection and avoiding direct exposure to excessive heat.

Will V-SOL V2801SG Work with Every ISP?

No. XPON support increases compatibility, but it does not guarantee operation on every fibre network. The ISP must support the relevant GPON or EPON technology and permit the ONU to be registered on its OLT.

Some providers may use specific authentication credentials, VLAN configurations or firmware requirements. Before replacing an ISP-provided ONU, contact the provider and confirm that the V2801SG can be registered and configured on its network.

GPON vs EPON: Why Dual Mode Matters

GPON and EPON are different access technologies. A GPON-only ONU is intended for GPON networks, while an EPON-only ONU is designed for EPON infrastructure. An XPON device such as the V2801SG combines support for both technologies in one unit.

This can be useful for installers and customers who may encounter different optical access standards. It can also reduce the need to purchase separate ONU models for different fibre networks.

V-SOL V2801SG vs Single-Mode GPON ONU

A conventional single-mode GPON ONU is designed specifically for GPON networks. The V2801SG adds EPON capability, which can make it a more flexible option when the network technology may vary.

If your ISP is confirmed to use GPON only, a GPON-only ONU may already meet your requirements. If you need flexibility between GPON and EPON environments, an XPON model can provide additional compatibility.

V-SOL V2801SG Price in Bangladesh

The price of the V-SOL V2801SG XPON Single Port ONU can vary according to stock availability, supplier pricing, import costs and warranty arrangements. Current market listings can differ, so customers should check the latest Unix Network price before purchasing.

When comparing V-SOL V2801SG price in Bangladesh, consider more than the initial purchase cost. Product authenticity, warranty coverage, technical assistance and after-sales support can be important when selecting networking equipment.

Technical Support and After-Sales Service

Fibre network equipment may require ISP-side configuration even when the physical installation is straightforward. If the ONU powers on but does not register with the OLT, the issue may be related to authentication or provider-side provisioning rather than a defective device.

Basic troubleshooting should include checking the power adapter, optical connection, PON registration status, Ethernet link and router configuration. If the optical connection does not register, the ISP may need to check the fibre line, OLT configuration or ONU registration details.

V-SOL V2801SG Buying Guide

Start by finding out whether your ISP uses GPON or EPON. The advantage of the V2801SG is that it supports both technologies, but the provider still needs to allow the device onto its network.

Next, check your router. The V2801SG provides one Gigabit Ethernet output, so a Gigabit WAN port is recommended if your broadband package is above 100Mbps. A suitable router also provides better control over Wi-Fi coverage and connected devices.

Finally, check warranty and support arrangements before purchase. Networking equipment can operate continuously, making dependable after-sales assistance useful when a connection problem occurs.

Who Should Buy V-SOL V2801SG?

• Home users with GPON or EPON fibre internet
• FTTH subscribers requiring a Gigabit Ethernet ONU
• Small offices using a separate router or firewall
• SOHO users who need flexible XPON compatibility
• Network installers working with GPON and EPON environments
• Customers replacing older 100Mbps ONUs
• Users who already own a separate Wi-Fi router
• Customers who want one ONU model for different compatible optical networks

Who May Need a Different Solution?

The V2801SG may not be the best option if your ISP uses a completely different optical access technology or does not permit third-party ONUs. It may also be unnecessary for users who require an all-in-one optical terminal with integrated high-performance Wi-Fi.

In those cases, an ISP-approved ONU, integrated GPON/EPON Wi-Fi router or another compatible optical network device may be more appropriate.
