Edgecore ECS4620-28F 28 Port Gigabit Ethernet Managed Switches

The Edgecore ECS4620-28F 28 Port Gigabit Ethernet Managed Switch is a high-performance Layer 3 managed and stackable fibre switch designed for enterprise networks, server aggregation, data-centre environments, campus networks and high-speed network backbones. Unlike a conventional Ethernet switch built primarily around copper RJ-45 ports, the ECS4620-28F is designed around Gigabit fibre connectivity, providing 22 dedicated 100/1000Mbps SFP ports, 2 combination Gigabit RJ-45/SFP ports, 2 dedicated 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports and an additional expansion slot for a dual-port 10G SFP+ module.

With a 128Gbps switching capacity, 95.23Mpps forwarding performance, 16K MAC address table, Layer 3 capabilities and support for stacking, the ECS4620-28F is built for networks where scalability, fibre connectivity and advanced traffic management are important. It can serve as an aggregation switch, network backbone switch or high-performance edge switch for organisations that need more than basic unmanaged Ethernet connectivity.

Edgecore ECS4620-28F 28 Port Gigabit Ethernet Managed Switch in Bangladesh

For enterprise networking projects in Bangladesh, the Edgecore ECS4620-28F provides a specialised solution for high-density Gigabit fibre networking. Its SFP-based architecture is particularly useful for connecting servers, network aggregation points, distribution switches and other infrastructure over fibre rather than relying exclusively on copper Ethernet cabling.

The switch belongs to Edgecore's ECS4620 family of Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switches and is designed for high-performance network environments. Its combination of Gigabit SFP ports, 10G uplinks, optional 10G expansion, Layer 3 functionality and stacking capability makes it considerably more advanced than a standard 24-port or 48-port unmanaged switch.

For businesses planning a fibre-based infrastructure, the ECS4620-28F can provide a central aggregation point while leaving room for higher-speed uplinks and future expansion.

28-Port Gigabit Fibre Switch with 10G Uplinks

The ECS4620-28F provides 28 physical network interfaces in its standard configuration, with the port arrangement focused heavily on fibre connectivity. The primary network interface section contains 22 100/1000BASE-X SFP ports, allowing compatible Gigabit optical transceivers to be used for fibre connections.

Two additional ports are combination interfaces supporting either 10/100/1000Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet or 100/1000Mbps SFP connectivity. This provides useful flexibility when a network contains a mixture of copper and fibre connections.

For higher-speed backbone connections, the switch includes two 10G SFP+ ports. An additional expansion slot can accommodate a dual-port 10G SFP+ expansion module, providing further high-speed connectivity when required.

Port Configuration

22 Gigabit SFP Fibre Ports

The 22 dedicated SFP ports are one of the main reasons to select the ECS4620-28F. SFP technology allows network administrators to select compatible optical transceivers according to the required fibre type, distance and network design.

Gigabit SFP connectivity is useful for interconnecting switches across buildings, connecting servers or storage infrastructure, extending networks through fibre and creating high-speed distribution links. Depending on the selected transceiver and fibre infrastructure, different optical technologies can be used for different distances and deployment requirements.

Because the SFP modules are removable, network administrators have more flexibility than with a switch where the optical interface type is permanently fixed. The appropriate transceiver can be selected based on the network's fibre infrastructure and required link characteristics.

Two Combo Gigabit Ports

The ECS4620-28F includes two combination Gigabit ports. These ports can operate through either RJ-45 copper Ethernet or SFP fibre connectivity, providing additional flexibility during network deployment.

This is useful in environments where most of the network uses fibre but a small number of nearby devices need conventional copper Ethernet. Instead of requiring a separate switch for those connections, the combo interfaces can accommodate the appropriate connection type.

The RJ-45 side supports 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet, making the combo ports compatible with conventional Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet equipment.

10 Gigabit SFP+ Uplinks

Modern enterprise networks often require more bandwidth between access, aggregation and core layers than individual Gigabit connections can provide. The ECS4620-28F addresses this requirement with two dedicated 10G SFP+ ports.

These ports can be used for high-speed uplinks to core switches, servers, storage infrastructure or other compatible 10Gbps networking equipment. Fibre transceivers, direct-attach cables or active optical cables can be selected according to the network design and compatibility requirements.

The 10G interfaces are particularly valuable when many Gigabit connections converge on the switch. They provide higher-capacity links towards the network core, helping prevent a single lower-speed uplink from becoming a bottleneck.

Optional 10G Expansion

The ECS4620-28F includes an expansion slot designed to support a dual-port 10G SFP+ module. This provides additional flexibility for organisations whose network requirements may grow over time.

Instead of replacing the entire switch when additional high-speed interfaces are required, the expansion capability allows the switch to be upgraded with compatible hardware. This is particularly useful in enterprise environments where network infrastructure is expected to remain in service for several years.

128Gbps Switching Capacity

The Edgecore ECS4620-28F provides a switching capacity of 128Gbps. Switching capacity represents the internal bandwidth available for moving traffic through the switch and is an important specification for an aggregation-class network device.

A high switching capacity is particularly relevant when multiple Gigabit ports are active simultaneously and traffic is being transferred between different interfaces. It helps the switch handle substantial aggregate traffic without relying on a low-capacity internal switching architecture.

95.23Mpps Forwarding Performance

The ECS4620-28F has a forwarding rate of approximately 95.23 million packets per second. Packet forwarding performance indicates how efficiently a network switch can process individual Ethernet packets.

This specification becomes especially relevant in enterprise environments where many network devices are simultaneously generating traffic. Smaller packets can create a heavier packet-processing workload than simply looking at total bandwidth would suggest, making packet-per-second performance an important consideration for professional networking equipment.

Layer 3 Managed Switching

The ECS4620-28F is a Layer 3 managed switch rather than a basic Layer 2 unmanaged switch. Layer 3 functionality allows the device to perform routing-related functions in addition to traditional Ethernet switching.

This can reduce the need for separate routing equipment in certain network designs and allows the switch to participate more actively in an enterprise network architecture. Layer 3 features are particularly useful when different network segments, VLANs or IP subnets need controlled communication.

Because Layer 3 configuration can significantly affect network behaviour, the switch is intended for environments where administrators have appropriate networking knowledge and can plan routing, VLAN and security policies correctly.

Managed Network Administration

The ECS4620-28F provides professional management capabilities rather than the plug-and-play-only operation found on an unmanaged switch. Administrators can configure and monitor the switch through supported management interfaces, including command-line administration and web-based management.

This gives network administrators greater visibility and control over the infrastructure. Management capabilities are useful for diagnosing connectivity problems, controlling network segmentation, monitoring interfaces and implementing policies appropriate for an enterprise environment.

16K MAC Address Table

The ECS4620-28F supports a MAC address table with up to 16,000 entries. The MAC address database allows the switch to learn which network devices are reachable through different interfaces and then forward Ethernet frames towards their intended destinations.

A 16K MAC table provides considerably more capacity than what is typically required by a small office network and is appropriate for larger enterprise environments containing many connected devices.

10KB Jumbo Frame Support

The switch supports jumbo frames up to approximately 10KB. Jumbo frames can be useful in specific high-throughput environments where compatible network devices are configured to use larger Ethernet frames.

They can potentially reduce packet-processing overhead during large data transfers, but jumbo frames should only be enabled as part of a properly planned network because all relevant devices and network paths need to support compatible frame sizes.

Stackable Architecture

The ECS4620-28F is designed as a stackable switch, allowing multiple compatible switches to be combined into a larger logical switching environment. The ECS4620 family supports stacking of up to four units.

Stacking can simplify the management of multiple switches and can provide a more scalable architecture as an organisation grows. Instead of treating each physical switch as an entirely separate device, compatible stacked configurations can allow administrators to manage the switching infrastructure as a coordinated system.

Stacking is particularly useful for enterprise networks, campuses and data-centre environments where multiple switches may be required in the same infrastructure.

Enterprise Server Aggregation

The ECS4620-28F is particularly well suited to server aggregation. Its high number of Gigabit SFP interfaces allows fibre-connected servers and network devices to be concentrated into one switching platform.

The 10G SFP+ uplinks can then connect the aggregation switch towards a higher-speed network core or backbone. This type of architecture can be useful for data centres, server rooms and enterprise networks where large numbers of devices communicate with centralised servers or storage systems.

Fibre-Based Network Backbone

Fibre networking is widely used when long-distance connections, electrical isolation or high-speed backbone links are required. The ECS4620-28F's SFP and SFP+ architecture makes it suitable for fibre-oriented network infrastructure.

Fibre links can be particularly useful between buildings or network rooms where copper Ethernet distances would be restrictive. The exact distance supported depends on the optical transceiver, fibre type and installation rather than the switch alone.

Compatible Optical Transceivers

The ECS4620-28F supports compatible Gigabit optical transceivers, including common 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX and other supported SFP technologies, as well as compatible 10G SFP+ solutions for its high-speed interfaces.

The exact transceiver should be selected according to the required fibre type, wavelength, distance and compatibility requirements. Using an appropriate optical module is essential because SFP and SFP+ interfaces are not simply interchangeable with every optical module on the market.

USB Type-A Storage Port

The switch includes a USB Type-A storage interface. This can be useful for supported system-management and storage-related functions, depending on the firmware and configured features.

A USB interface on an enterprise switch can also provide administrators with additional options for certain maintenance and management tasks compared with a device that has only network interfaces and a console connection.

RJ-45 Console Port

A dedicated RJ-45 console port provides a direct management connection for network administrators. Console access is particularly valuable during initial configuration, troubleshooting or situations where normal network-based management access is unavailable.

For enterprise deployments, having console access provides an important alternative management path when diagnosing connectivity or configuration issues.

Auto-Negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX

The copper combo interfaces support automatic Ethernet negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX. These features simplify the connection of conventional Ethernet devices by allowing the switch and connected equipment to negotiate compatible link settings automatically.

While the ECS4620-28F is primarily a fibre-oriented enterprise switch, these copper capabilities make the combo ports more versatile when integrating legacy or nearby RJ-45 equipment.

Power Supply and Rackmount Design

The ECS4620-28F uses a 100–240V AC, 50–60Hz power supply and is designed for installation in a standard 19-inch network rack. Its approximately 44 x 31.5 x 4.4cm dimensions correspond to a compact 1U rack form factor.

The rackmount design allows the switch to be installed alongside patch panels, servers, UPS equipment and other network infrastructure in a professional server room or communications cabinet.

Edgecore ECS4620-28F Technical Specifications

Advanced Network Infrastructure

The ECS4620-28F is designed for infrastructure rather than ordinary home networking. Its combination of fibre ports, 10G uplinks, Layer 3 management and stacking makes it appropriate for network architectures where traffic needs to be controlled and aggregated efficiently.

Typical deployment can include a network edge layer connected to the switch through Gigabit fibre, with the ECS4620-28F then connecting upwards to a higher-speed core using 10G SFP+ links. The exact topology will depend on the size and requirements of the organisation.

Suitable for Data Centres

Data-centre environments can benefit from high-density fibre connectivity and high-speed uplinks. The ECS4620-28F can act as an aggregation switch for compatible servers, storage systems and other network infrastructure.

The 22 Gigabit SFP ports provide substantial fibre connection density, while the 10G SFP+ interfaces provide higher-bandwidth paths towards the network core. The optional expansion module provides additional flexibility for organisations with increasing 10G requirements.

Suitable for Campus and Enterprise Networks

Universities, educational institutions, corporate campuses and larger organisations may have network rooms distributed throughout their buildings. Fibre is often used to connect these locations because it can support long-distance infrastructure links and provide electrical isolation.

The ECS4620-28F can be used as part of a distribution or aggregation layer where multiple fibre connections converge before traffic is sent towards the network core.

Suitable for ISP and Network Service Infrastructure

Network operators and service providers can use high-density SFP-based switches in suitable aggregation environments. The large number of fibre interfaces allows multiple optical links to be terminated within a single rack unit, while 10G interfaces provide higher-capacity uplinks.

However, the suitability of the switch for a particular ISP architecture depends on the required routing protocols, subscriber-management features, redundancy design and other network-specific requirements. A detailed technical assessment should be performed before deployment in a carrier-grade environment.

Suitable for Server and Storage Networks

Server and storage environments can generate substantial amounts of network traffic, particularly during backups, virtualisation, database operations and large file transfers. A switch with high aggregate switching capacity and fibre connectivity can be useful in such environments.

The 10G SFP+ interfaces can provide higher-speed connections to servers or upstream infrastructure where compatible 10G network adapters and optical or direct-attach solutions are available.

No PoE Support

The ECS4620-28F is not a Power over Ethernet switch. Its Gigabit interfaces are intended for data networking rather than directly supplying electrical power to PoE cameras, wireless access points or other PoE devices.

If the network requires PoE, a dedicated PoE switch or appropriate external PoE equipment should be incorporated into the network design.

Important Buying Considerations

• The ECS4620-28F is primarily a fibre-oriented enterprise switch and is not a conventional 24-port RJ-45 access switch.
• It requires compatible SFP or SFP+ transceivers for most fibre connections.
• Optical modules should be selected according to fibre type, distance and compatibility.
• The switch does not provide PoE.
• Its Layer 3 and management capabilities require appropriate network configuration knowledge.
• 10G connectivity requires compatible SFP+ transceivers, DACs or AOCs where applicable.
• Exact hardware revisions should be checked when precise power, firmware or feature requirements are important.
